Screen free skills day: a council program
The problem. Children spend little time on outdoor practical skills. Who it helps. A council or library team hosting it, helping children aged 8 to 14 and their parents. What you start with. A local park, a few tools and a skills list. What is delivered. Children try bush walks, map reading and simple campcraft basics in a supervised day. A community officer hosts it with local partners and follows progress. How progress is known. Skills tried are ticked off a list. A short summary is shared with the council, with names and personal details left out. Main purpose. The main purpose is access to a useful product or service, or less waste going to landfill, for the community. Honest limits. Weather and supervision limits apply. Child safe practice applies: parent or guardian permission, adult supervision, privacy protection and an inclusive setting. Ownership of your idea stays with you, and no job, funding or contract is promised. Track record. This is a new idea built on work Deals Colony has already documented. It has not been run yet.
