Screen free skills day: a workplace project

The problem. Children spend little time on outdoor practical skills. Who it helps. A workplace team backing the project. The people helped are children aged 8 to 14 and their parents. Employees take part as supervised adult helpers with a youth group, outside normal performance reviews. What you start with. A local park, a few tools and a skills list. What is delivered. Children try bush walks, map reading and simple campcraft basics in a supervised day. A named team lead runs it alongside normal work, and taking part is voluntary. How progress is known. Skills tried are ticked off a list. A short summary is shared with your team, with names and personal details left out. Main purpose. The main purpose is access to a useful product or service, or less waste going to landfill, for the community. Honest limits. Weather and supervision limits apply. Child safe practice applies: parent or guardian permission, adult supervision, privacy protection and an inclusive setting. Ownership of your idea stays with you, and no job, funding or contract is promised. Track record. This is a new idea built on work Deals Colony has already documented. It has not been run yet.
