Timber trays: a council program

The problem. Timber offcuts are binned and trades skills go untried. Who it helps. A council or library team hosting it, helping people facing barriers to paid work, with the organisations that support them. What you start with. Safe timber offcuts and sandpaper. What is delivered. Trays are cut, sanded and oiled in small runs. A community officer hosts it with local partners and follows progress. How progress is known. Trays finished and steps learned are recorded. A short summary is shared with the council, with names and personal details left out. Main purpose. The main purpose is a pathway to work, training or a first venture for the people taking part. Honest limits. Power tools stay with trained staff. Items are described accurately, in line with Australian consumer law, and custom made or refurbished items are disclosed. Ownership of your idea stays with you, and no job, funding or contract is promised. Track record. This is a new idea built on work Deals Colony has already documented. It has not been run yet.
