Maker residency from surplus: a council program
The problem. Makers lack free materials. Who it helps. A council or library team hosting it, helping op shops, small manufacturers and community groups with surplus to share. What you start with. A maker, surplus and a table. What is delivered. A maker works for a month with donated surplus. A community officer hosts it with local partners and follows progress. How progress is known. Pieces made are counted. A short summary is shared with the council, with names and personal details left out. Main purpose. The main purpose is access to a useful product or service, or less waste going to landfill, for the community. Honest limits. Makers keep ownership of their ideas. Items are described accurately, in line with Australian consumer law, and custom made or refurbished items are disclosed. Ownership of your idea stays with you, and no job, funding or contract is promised. Track record. This is a new idea built on work Deals Colony has already documented. It has not been run yet.
