Hand stitched pouches: a school project
The problem. Offcuts are wasted and sewing skills go unused. Who it helps. A school: students and people with different abilities making side by side, with a teacher in charge. What you start with. Fabric offcuts and basic sewing tools. What is delivered. Patterns are cut once and stitched in simple, repeatable steps. It fits a school term, with the teacher in charge of timing and safety. How progress is known. Pouches made and stitching skills learned are recorded. Main purpose. The main purpose is a pathway to work, training or a first venture for the people taking part. Honest limits. Sewing tools need supervised use. Child safe practice applies: parent or guardian permission, adult supervision, privacy protection and an inclusive setting. Items are described accurately, in line with Australian consumer law, and custom made or refurbished items are disclosed. Ownership of your idea stays with you, and no job, funding or contract is promised. Track record. This is a new idea built on work Deals Colony has already documented. It has not been run yet.
