Surplus textile bank: a school project
The problem. Textiles go to landfill. Who it helps. A school: students sorting and redesigning surplus, with a teacher in charge. What you start with. Fabric offcuts and rolls. What is delivered. Fabric is collected, sorted and shared with sewers. It fits a school term, with the teacher in charge of timing and safety. How progress is known. Fabric shared is weighed and counted. Main purpose. The main purpose is access to a useful product or service, or less waste going to landfill, for the community. Honest limits. Fabric must be clean and dry. Child safe practice applies: parent or guardian permission, adult supervision, privacy protection and an inclusive setting. Items are described accurately, in line with Australian consumer law, and custom made or refurbished items are disclosed. Ownership of your idea stays with you, and no job, funding or contract is promised. Track record. This is a new idea built on work Deals Colony has already documented. It has not been run yet.
