Students sort and redesign: a council program

The problem. Students have few real design briefs. Who it helps. A council or library team hosting it, helping op shops, small manufacturers and community groups with surplus to share. What you start with. Surplus lots and a design brief. What is delivered. Students sort surplus and redesign a small range. A community officer hosts it with local partners and follows progress. How progress is known. Items redesigned are counted. A short summary is shared with the council, with names and personal details left out. Main purpose. The main purpose is access to a useful product or service, or less waste going to landfill, for the community. Honest limits. Students work under supervision. Items are described accurately, in line with Australian consumer law, and custom made or refurbished items are disclosed. Ownership of your idea stays with you, and no job, funding or contract is promised. Track record. This is a new idea built on work Deals Colony has already documented. It has not been run yet.
